All the time customers ask me how to prepare and use marrow bones in their meals!
It actually couldn't be easier! The simplest way to incorporate marrow into your meals is to just add a few bones to pan or crockpot when preparing a roast, stew, or soup. Let the bones simmer for an hour or more so that the marrow is released. Just be careful not to go overboard with too many bones as this can create too much grease to settle at the top. Just a few bones will add wonderful flavor and nutrients!
Below is an incredibly simple process for baking marrow bones so that the marrow can be removed from the bones and used in many of your favorite dishes.
Baking in 3 Simple Steps:
Step 1:
Thaw 2 to 3 pounds marrow bones, put on pan and season with salt and your favorite seasonings.
Step 2:
Preheat oven to 450°F. Place marrow bones on a tray or ovenproof skillet, bone side down. Roast until the bones are lightly browned, about 20 minutes. Some fat will render from the bones, but the majority of the marrow should stay in the bone.
Step3:
Once baked, you can now remove the marrow with a spoon and spread on bread or add to dishes like rice, mash potatoes, salad and more. This is a simple way to boost the nutrients and flavor of your everyday food dishes!
Enjoy!
