An Easter Message from Seven Sons

Would it be OK if I shared a personal message with you this morning?

As I type this post, I'm reminded how as a small child we would wake up before dawn to attend Easter service as a family.

It was a tradition for our congregation to gather in a cleared wooded area near our church as Pastor Denny would lead us in an Easter message.

I was probably only 6 or 7 years old but I can vividly remember the beauty of seeing the sunrise through the trees.

It's funny how some memories never leave us... I feel fortunate for my childhood and fond memories I can cherish.

Personally for our family... Easter is about experiencing a true sense of gratitude for the hope that forgiveness brings.

It's been said by philosophers from all walks of life that... gratitude and forgiveness are two of life's most powerful human emotions.

You don't have to live too many years on this earth before you discover the inescapable reality that life is full of ups and downs.

Many of us have experienced the incomparable joys of bringing new life into this world. Some of us are enjoying life's fullness through grandchildren. Yet at the same time perhaps you've also faced great pain, loss or uncertainty. Easter is about victory over all!

Wherever you find yourself right now at this very moment... I encourage you to rest in the forgivenesspeace, and hope offered through the risen Christ.“

According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” - 1 Peter 1:3

"Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it." - Mark Twain

On behalf of my parents, brothers and my entire family... we wish you and those you love a very blessed Easter!

Sincerely,

- Blaine Hitzfield (the 2nd son)

The Healing Journey: Your Questions, My Answers

It’s a calm summer Friday evening here in Roanoke, Indiana as I'm preparing this weekly message while writing from the front porch. A cool breeze is drifting across the pond. As I sit here taking it all in, I feel an unexpected and steady sense of peace—Why? Because I’ve just finished reading over 20 heartfelt letters from readers—many of you—responding to last week’s newsletter about my healing journey with Crohn’s disease

Looking Back on a Diagnosis I Once Feared

My oldest son Bryton and I traveled to Lawrenceburg, Indiana (just outside Cincinnati) to compete in our very first Spartan Race together. Now, I’ve never been much of a fitness guy—but I’ve gotta say, that race turned out to be one of the most rewarding and special memories I’ve made with my son. Honestly, it’s the kind of milestone I may repeat with each of my kids as they reach their teenage years. But what really struck me was how grateful I felt just to be able to do something like this. 18 years ago, a doctor told me I had a lifelong illness that could make experiences like this impractical. So today, I want to share that story with you
