A Spring Farm Update from Seven Sons Farm

April 13, 2025

Bruce (the 6th son) here with a seasonal update...and one that I'm thrilled to be making because green grass and lots of life are arriving with SPRING.

Here's what's happening in Roanoke:

We have Chicks in the Brooder!

Thankfully, Spring weather seems to be in full swing which means in a matter of weeks we'll have these future boiler chickens out on pasture foraging for a good meal under the Indiana sunshine.

If you've been following along on our Instagram you've seen the hard work the farm guys have been putting in the last month to ready the brooder for these fury critters.

A BIG Spring Project kicks off

We're making some big changes around the farm so our visitors and on-farm store customers can get a better look at the cattle, hogs, laying hens and broilers. This is a big initiative that we kicked off with much enthusiasm (despite the crummy cloudy, wet weather!).

We got a number of fence posts placed and fencing is set to be installed soon.

Our vision for this part of the farm is to also include walking paths to make viewing the animals easier. Stay tuned for more progress updates!

Baaaah...it's Lamb season

Spring lamb season is tough to beat. While our flock is smaller this year, which means fewer of these curious, cute critters to enjoy...life sure is grand when you get to be in their presence.

I can promise that the baby lambs are some of the kid's favorites.

Farm Tour Dates are coming soon

Make sure to stay tuned to our farm newsletter as we'll soon be announcing our Spring, Summer and Fall Farm Wagon Tour dates.

These events are in high demand and tickets will go fast. We look forward to hosting visitors soon and to see many light bulb moments 💡 as they see regenerative farming in action.

Thanks for reading this on farm update and supporting our family farm.

A Winter Update From the Farm

Bruce (the 6th son) here with a farm update for December 2024. In this winter farm production update, I'll discuss a few projects we've recently moved to completion and paint a vision for what's still coming as 2024 nears its end.

French Chefs Visit the Farm

Earlier this month, Spencer and I had the privilege of hosting some incredible chefs from France for a farm tour. They are here in Indiana competing in the World Food Championships which are being hosted in Indianapolis. Last year, their team actually won the World Burger Championship! 🍔 While prepping for their event down in Indianapolis (about 90 minutes South of us), they looked online for a local farm to partner with to grab the meats they'd use for their competition.

A Glimpse of Hope for Change in Agriculture Policy

As a farmer, I’ve spent countless hours away from my farm and family investing time in policy discussions inside the Indiana state capital complex. I’ve testified in hearings, sat in on legislative voting sessions, and even presented a bill before our Indiana state senate committee. Heck, I’ve gone head-to-head against government officials and lawyers representing some of the largest egg corporations in the USA. These aren't activities I dreampt I'd be partaking in as a teenage farmer, but it's where our path as regenerative farming pioneers began taking me.
